Be very careful on our pavements – crampons are highly recommended.

Ones with small studs.

Ones with metal coils.

OC system

Environmentalists angered by moving snow with helicopters.

More ecofriendly is The Vuori Snow line.

Or Tree2Forest.

Barmes de L’Ours

Has an annual art exhibition.

Free to go to.

This year is ‘Polar Tales’.

Team GB’s Victoria Palla is racing in tonight’s World Cup Slalom in Courchavel.

A speedrider crashed in the Manchet Valley but was whisked to hospital in a helicopter.

A few days earlier a parapenter had landed, uninjured, in a tree.

In Austria last week, a 64-year-old Czech teacher, on a school trip, died after hitting a tree.

When out with a dog… always pick up their poo. Fines for those that don’t.

Good morning Val d’Isère

A

Cloudy

Snowy

Windy

Day

so low light goggles

And wrap up well.

Temperature OFFICIALLY

Between minus two

and minus seven

But it will feel a lot colder

If the wind is blowing

At sixty five kilometres per hour

Into your face.

Be really really careful

When walking around town.

Even though grit has been put down

Some areas of the pavements

Are stupidly slippery….

Several people have been injured…

You can buy crampons

To pull onto your shoes

these make a big difference….

They are just metal spirals

Or

small studs

Rather than the big metal spikes

Used by rock climbers…

I have put links to two examples

In the episode description.

Just so you know what I am

Twittering on about.

There are a lot of similar ones

That you can easily buy in shops in Val.

Ones with small studs.

Ones with metal coils.

I do recommend pulling them off

Before going into a shop

As I have certainly slipped

On a smooth supermarket surface

As they can

Act like rollers….

You can also get

Crampons built into your boots

Using the OC system

Which you can flip

In and out

Have also added that link

 Episode ninety

How time flies !

I have just added links to

Both Val and Tignes live slope and lift status so you can check when you are out and about

If your favourite lift is running.

Links to the webcams

Val

Tignes

Mixture of daily news

And tasty tips

There is a lot going on

So I add whatever I hear about

To the calendar page

So don’t forget to check that regularly….

I have even added musical things that

Are happening late at night.

This is going to get the environmentalists

Excited…

The Italian ski resort

Monte Bondone

Has been moving snow

Dumping it onto

A wind stripped slope

Using a

Helicopter.

40 trips

Their defence

Is that failing to reopen the slope

Would have cost them up to

400 thousand euros

As tour operators

Would have moved clients

To resorts with more open slopes

More eco friendly

Is The Vuori Snow line

As

Each garment

Is made from discarded fishing nets….

Continuing on the ecotheme

Pierre Vaultier

Double Olympic champion

And 6 times snowboard cross world champion

Was at our 5 star Hotel

The Barmes de L’Ours

Promoting his

Tree2Forest

Initiative.

While thinking of the

Barmes de L’Ours

Every winter it has an art exhibition

You can just wander in

No charge

You don’t have to be a guest…

This year it is called ‘Polar Tales’.

The artist says he draws the

Lines of his waking dreams.

Stories of bears, fairies

Angels and devils

Using different media and techniques.

This evening is the

Night slalom

In Courchavel

One to watch is

24-year-old  Victoria Palla

She has a British father

And Austrian mother

So

in the spirit of family fairness

She skied for Austria until she was 16

But since then, has skied for Team GB.

A 42-year-old speed rider

Crash landed off piste

 in our Manchet valley

at the weekend.

A witness immediately

Alerted our pisteurs

so he was quickly

Found and helicoptered to hospital

With back, pelvic and abdominal injuries.

A few days earlier

Someone was parapenting

And landed in a tree.

Luckily uninjured

He jumped down

Left his parapent in the tree

And walked home.

If you do have an accident

Or start an avalanche

But ski out of it uninjured

Please

Always let the ski patrollers

Know

That it has happened

And that everyone is OK

So they don’t waste

Time and money

Risking their lives

Searching for

No reason.

A terrible accident happened in Austria last week…

A sixty-four-year-old Czech teacher

On a school trip

Crashed into a tree

In front of his students

And died on the way to hospital.

If you are lucky enough

To have a dog that takes

You for a walk

Run

Or doodle in the snow

Please remember to

ALWAYS

Pick up their poo….

It is not difficult

And Val even

Supplies free bags.

You can also be fined

For failing to poo pick.

Non dog walkers are

Always complaining….

And I don’t blame them…

We are in a beautiful area

And are so lucky that

The dogs can run off lead.

A few days ago the town

Litter picking team

Were in Les Sources

Picking up dog poo.

They left with SEVERAL

KILOS…..

I get irritated

By men

Peeing in public places.

The other day

A man was peeing against

The wall of a house

Presumably not HIS house….

The gendarmes screeched to a halt…

And had

A

Word….

Be warned….

I don’t know if it is illegal

But sure they

Could find

Something to fine you for…

My sort of day

US National

Chocolate-covered anything day….

Have just received

A big stock of good quality

Couverture

So after taking doodles to the snow

Then art class

Will get into

Chocolate melting mode

And start dipping…

Just in case you are passing Zurich….

The home of Lindt…

It has the world’s largest chocolate fountain…

30 feet tall

1500 litres of chocolate…

Have a fun ski

Don’t let the snowy weather

Put you off your stride

See you tomorrow.
