Yesterday men’s World Cup Slalom on La Face was won by Norweigan Timon Haugan, though Team GB’s Laurie Taylor raced well and finished 12th.

This is the link if you have any spare pennies to sponsor

The Carrick-Smiths brothers. Two were racing in Val this weekend.

Lindsey Vonn finished 4th in the Super G in St Moritz. Mikaela Shiffrin was going well until she missed the last gate. Tignes Laura Gauché came fifth.

It was won by Sydney Born Alice Robinson – her first Super G win, but the day was overshadowed by the slaughter on Bondi Beach.

Team GBs Charlotte Banks and Huw Nightingale

Were busy in Cervinia, winning the Team Snowboard Cross World Cup !

22-year-old Zoe Atkin won silver in the freeski halfpipe World Cup in China.

The Mountain Gendarmes had a fruitless night search for a missing 23-year-old seasonal worker, who turned up for work at 9 am unaware that he had been reported missing.

Don’t ski or walk up a closed piste. A groomer narrowly avoided flattening a ski tourer.

The charity fundraiser at the weekend raised 109,000 euros for Val’s Club des Sports.

FlexBeam are running a competition….A trip to the Olympics.

To enter you need to buy a FlexBeam before the end of December.

Good morning Val d’Isère

After the World Cup wall to wall sunshine

We are in for a cloudy day

With a bit of sun this morning

Breezy

gusts of nearly 50 kilometres per hour are possible

Maximum plus two

Minimum minus five

I had thought we were going to get some snow

But looks as though

Someone has delayed that until

Tomorrow….

The pistes are in good condition

But a fresh

Coating

Would be very nice

Especially in the areas

Near the snow canons.

Artificial snow is harsher..

Not as soft and gentle

As the stuff from the clouds.

Winter weekend

Traffic

Has already started.

It was very slow from Val to Bourg

Yesterday afternoon

As the World Cup circus

Was also leaving

apparently later

It was very bad between Bourg and Moutier

We live in the mountains

We don’t have huge roads

Please always be patient

Getting angry

Won’t get you home any quicker

Yesterday’s Men’s World Cup slalom

Here in Val

Was won by Norway’s

28-year-old Timon Haugan

Who also came 4th in Saturdays

Giant Slalom.

The fastest Frenchman

Was Steven Amiez who came 9th

Team GB’s Laurie Taylor

Fought a good race

To come joint 12th

Six places ahead of Val’s

Victor Muffat-Jeandet

We had a 2nd Brit in the top 30

29-year-old Billy Major

Sadly both British Dave Ryding

And Val’s Clement Noel

Didn’t finish the 2nd run

And Luca Carrick-Smith was out in the first run.

It was good to see two of the Carrick-Smith brothers

in our World Cup races this weekend.

It is very early in their careers.

If you have any spare pennies to sponsor

The Carrick-Smiths

I have put the link in the episode description.

You will remember that their mother,

Scottish Emma Carrick-Anderson

Competed for Great Britain

In four Winter Olympics.

I am sure she has some great tips

For her three boys.

Lindsey Vonn finished her trip to St Moritz

With a fourth

In the Super G….

Never satisfied

Always reaching for perfection

She described her performance

As

OK.

When she won

The downhill on Friday

She was the oldest skier

Male or female

To win a World Cup race.

Can’t wait to see her here in Val next weekend.

Meanwhile Mixed emotions for

Sydney Born Alice Robinson

Clearly delighted to have

Won her first World Cup Super G

But shocked and

saddened by

The slaughter in Bondi Beach

The Other American

Super speedy skiing lady

Mikaela Shiffrin

Was competing against teammate Lindsey

For the first time since 2019

It was her first Super G

In 2 years.

She started out really well

But missed the final gate.

HOW FRUSTRATING !!!

Mustn’t forget to mention

France’s Romane Miradoli

As she came

SECOND.

Tignes Laura Gauché

Flew in fifth.

Meanwhile

Team GBs

Charlotte Banks and Huw Nightingale

Were busy in Cervinia….

Winning the Team

Snowboard Cross World Cup !

Final result for today

Another British medal…

22-year-old Zoe Atkin

Started off her season well

With

a silver in the freeski halfpipe World Cup in China.

The Mountain Gendarmes near Courchavel

Were called out at midnight on Saturday…..

The roommates of a 23-year-old man

Living in La Rosière

Were besides themselves with worry..

He hadn’t come back …

They had no idea where he was….

It was too late and too dark for a helicopter.

So the rescuers put skins on their skis and

walked up

With headlamps

Couldn’t find him……..

At 9 am he turned up at the restaurant he worked in….

He had got distracted

Admiring the sunset

And slept in an igloo…..

If you are doing anything

Unusual

Tell your friends…..

The rescuers could have been injured

Searching in the dark.

Lets remember a few

Basic rules….

Don’t ski on a closed piste….

The pisteurs have closed it

Or not opened it

For at least one good reason…..

Don’t walk up a closed piste….

The other day in Val Thorens

A ski tourer had a lucky escape…

On a steep slope

He was happily heading uphill

Under the cable that

Winches the snow groomer

….

LUCKILY the driver of the grooming

Machine spotted him

and stopped…

Grooming machines are very heavy

Driving over a skier

Would have been

Very

Messy….

PLEASE

Stick to the rules

Why would you know

Better than the Experts ?

The Critèrium weekend

Wasn’t just racing

And parties

The annual charity event

At the Club des Sports

Raised one hundred and nine thousand euros

Which will give

Val’s children

A chance to

develop

Into superstars.

Ski racing is not cheap…

Do you fancy a trip to the Olympics….

Fully funded……

FlexBeam are running a competition….

You just need to buy a

FlexBeam before the end of December.

The link is in the episode description.

Can you believe the Petit Danois

Has been around

Dishing up Après Ski Fun

for

THIRTY years ….

It is having it’s birthday party tonight..

Head there…

From five o’clock

Hanukkah

The Jewish Festival of Lights

Starts today

Let’s remember the people

 Who were

Injured

Or killed

Celebrating Hanukkah

On Bondi Beach

Yesterday

What a mad bad world….

Makes skiing

Doodles

And art

Seem frivolous

Will be back with you again tomorrow.
