Special Offers I have Spied....
The Season is now well under way with excellent skiing, restaurants gradually opening, and food scattered on the street by late night party people, so the Doodles are busy cleaning up in the mornings.
Was pleased to hear La Bodega in Tignes
proudly promoting their new vegan taco !
Over the Pond a Utah Father who took his 2, 4 and 8 year old children on a very long and dangerous hike, has been charged….. and the psychiatrists are also assessing him.
I don’t have personal experience hiring kit for a season but the deal at the Val Ski Shop in La Daille does sound worth a look.
Alice Robinson, New Zealand’s Olympic hope has had a flying start to her winter with 2 World Cup wins, so far…..
Meanwhile, don’t dismiss Ireland as a ski-nation-to-watch…… Cormac Comerford
has made good use of their indoor slope and looks as though he will also be racing downhill in Bormio.
UN Civil Aviation Day ….. is it just my imagination or has flying got more difficult ? The long passport queues now that the post Brexit checks are rolling out don’t help.
For more information there are more links in the transcript, Calendar and Special Offers pages on the website.

Good morning Val d’Isère Not great viz today…….. You will have to imagine our Mountain peaks Some snow Minus two so Not too cold And looks like a sunny week ahead ….. So No complaints here !
|
Definitely feels that the season Is under way… It is so quiet here in the interseasons That the number of people Cars Buses And strangers Takes some adjusting to !
Doodles take their Civic Street cleaning duties very seriously…
so were delighted When they found their First cache of Semi frozen snow covered Chips ….
Not far enough in to the Winter for Pavement pizza But sure it will come….
I am not really a night club Sort of person So am in awe of how much Alcohol it must take To spend a small fortune On a late-night snack Then discard it On the short walk home….
|
Coming close to contradicting myself….
After our event last week I DID persuade, cajole and drag A group of friends to the Folie Douce …..
They had a special evening event Last Friday The day before Val opened And it was EXCELLENT !
Fab atmosphere Top service Delicious food And Lots of it….
SO GOOD that I am Already booked for
You still may only glimpse me Speeding past in the afternoon Rather Than dancing on the tables !!
Luke clearly knows how to Tap into more than one Market…. They have started
He also proudly showed us Around the huge And beautifully organised kitchens Which at the end of A very very busy service On their first event of the season Was brave Or he Had complete confidence That it was all going to look Clean and perfect Not chaotic With piles of dishes As my small kitchen was Earlier in the day !
|
Restaurants and businesses are Busy opening
Yesterday was Trifollet’s First day.
Such a good position Halfway down Bellevarde
On our way home It seemed rude not To stop for lunch…
Their team of 20 Already seemed to Be working well
You know how busy it can be On a sunny afternoon….
Just six in their kitchen To Produce all that food !
They haven’t been idle Since they closed in April….
The family continue to improve The building The tables The menus
Small touches Done with the same Care and attention shown to the food And service during the winter.
|
While on food….. I have mentioned before how tricky it can be To find vegan food In a restaurant
In Val or Tignes….. The butter base for French food Is just one of the issues….
The bits of bacon To give it FLAVOUR Is another……
I am partial to a steak But LOVE both vegan and vegetarian food So wish this would change….
So I was pleased to see Is proudly promoting Its new vegan Fishless Taco The Poiss NON
They ALSO seem to have Good happy hour beer prices From four until six each day….
|
So what is happening in Val this week ? Apart from Skiing…. In very good conditions ! Looking at my
Today is Sunday Funday in the Hibou Bar..
You could also have a free intro To Fat Biking this evening…. Big fat wheels So great on the snow.
On Wednesday is the Welcome party For all those who work hard In Val This will be At the Maison de Val
There is also the Wednesday Special evening at the Swimming Pool Where you can Get access to the pools in the Wellness Centre For no extra charge.
The week builds up for the Start of next Weekend’s World Cup… So an opening ceremony On Friday night. Our 70th Criterium….
|
I have my own tatty kit So don’t have PERSONAL Experience of hiring For the season But Val Ski Shop In La Daille Seem to have a good offer….. so I have put it on my Special Offers I have Spied page… They also claim to be Very Friendly !! If you try them Do let us know…
|
In October I talked about a man Who took his 3 VERY YOUNG CHILDREN On a crazy Hike in Utah He apparently At one point He Even recorded the eldest, his 8-year-old daughter asking ‘Are we going to freeze to death Daddy’
He has now been charged with Child abuse and torture But the Psychiatrists are Also involved.
|
Yesterday I was recommending indoor skiing As pre-season prep And mentioned how It built Dave Ryding Into the star that he is …
Over In County Wicklow 29 year old Cormac Comerford Is also a fan…
Not from a skiing family Ireland’s top skier is Very likely to be Speeding downhill In the Italian Olympics
If there are any Irish listening Who have a few euros to spare
Being based in the mountains To train full time In this Olympic year May cost him one hundred thousand euros….
Olympic dreams do not come cheap !!
|
Southern Hemisphere’s 25-year-old Alice Robinson Has started the winter in style With not one but TWO World Cup Giant Slalom victories……
Giving her six World Cup golds So far…
She was Born in Australia But moved to New Zealand When she was four And already has 2 Olympics Under her bib
Definitely one to watch !
|
Today is the UN Civil Aviation Day ….. Linking countries And economies….
Then again we are supposed To stop flying To save the planet…
And have you noticed How much More of a hassle it seems ?
Hope the post Brexit checks Get easier…..
Standing in the Non-EU passport queue For longer Than the flight from London
Is not much fun….
ANWAY I am not flying anywhere Anytime soon ! Arting Doodling And skiing to be done…
See you tomorrow.
