Good Morning Val d’Isère Happy Sunny Saturday And of course Pinch Punch 1st of ANOTHER month …….
|
|
We are heading back into avalanche season…. Or avoiding avalanche season……
A stark reminder Of how quick Large and destructive They can Be was a video Someone shot this week In Nepal When A giant wall of snow and ice Broke off four thousand metres above Some trekkers The avalanche Ripped through their base camp Scattering equipment Tossing the tents……..
Luckily it happened in the day time So as it approached And was gaining momentum The trekkers RAN
Noone was even injured Let alone killed.

|
Earlier this week Close to Grenoble A nineteen year old man was found Unconscious And cold In the snow
Nearly dead when the pompiers arrived Helped by a drone And sniffer dogs
Thanks to all the people involved Finding, moving, treating him He is now doing well.

Another three siblings Another three Olympic hopes
Alli Lauren And Sam Are all in the US team…..
3 sisters 3 disciplines
Moguls Alpine Ski jumping…..
Mr & Mrs Macuga may have difficult decisions……… If all daughters get through They could be competing in Different cities On the same day.
WHO do they support……. Mum and Dad say they will have to draw straws………
Tough challenge But nice one to have !

A while ago I whined about How different sports Get different prize money… Comparing Tennis to Skiing or dangerous, hay guzzling eventing.
There is some good news for American Olympians….
Thanks to a one hundred million donation Athletes who make the US Olympic or Paralymic teams Will receive one hundred thousand dollars when they retire.
It is difficult to believe that many of the Stars of the Olympics Live in or near poverty ……… Almost sixty percent earn less than fifty thousand us dollars a year….. And skiing is an EXPENSIVE SPORT.
The welcome cash isn’t ‘instant’ It will hit their bank accounts Either 20 years after they retire Or when they hit 45 …
More Olympics….. more cash….

France takes it’s privacy laws seriously So it was good to see Paris Match Rapped over the knuckles For printing photos Of the Wales Family On a ski holiday last April.
They knew they shouldn’t have done it.. They knew it would boost their circulation.. They maybe underestimated the wrath Of our future king……..
|
|
When are you too old to ski ?? The idea of stopping skiing is A mystery to me……….. Some say 50…… others 60……… But why would you stop ? If you get cold……….wrap up ! If you are bored………… Ooh that is a bit spoilt………… Maybe change resort……
plenty of people in Val Ski well into their 80’s Even if it is just to get some air Mountain top view And pootle to lunch.
In Colorado 98 year old Tom Brennan Is still TEACHING Skiing.. Despite a cancer diagnosis…….. He smiles schusses on And intends to do so until He is AT LEAST one hundred
Good on you tom.

Quite a choice of celebrations … My top pick World vegan day….. I do love plant based food…I even have a fancy diploma or two in preparing it…. HOWEVER If you are vegan And like to eat out ………I couldn’t honestly recommend Val……….
It is difficult to find a good variety of VEGETARIAN dishes……especially since Benoit moved to Annecy,,,… take out the cheese……and butter………. it just doesn’t happen here…….. can’t even bear the thought of the reaction of a sommelier AND yes ….. it is a thing………. WHAT IS NON VEGAN IN WINE I hear you scream…… Egg whites Gelatin, from bones and cartilage Casein, a milk protein Isinglass, from fish bladders…..yummy
I would like more vegetarian options ……. Maybe we could start some sort of campaign Risotto or omelette get pretty boring. Let alone the boiled vegetables For every course EXCEPT dessert A friend of mine was served For two weeks……..
We need to Encourage and cajole the chefs…… Let me know if you agree !
After all that talk Am off for a bacon butty ! See you on Sunday. |
