2. Patous and Doodles
3. Two British people killed in a small plane crash
4. Climate Change, Cows, Cheese and Costs
5. Snow Secure mats to save the snow.
6. Training my Brain

  1.

After all I said about Patou Protection dogs... a family kept one as a pet. She has escaped and is living in a public park........hasn't attacked anyone ....yet....they are hoping to catch her soon.

People living in our building must have mistaken my doodles for Patous or similar.... though my naughty neighbour had put the fear in their minds...

Sad news from the Southern French Alps, 3 British people were involved when their 2 light aircraft collided. 2 people died.

More thoughts about climate change and the steps farmers are taking to keep the quality of the cheese, but each step incurs costs...

Snow Secure are doing their climate change bit..... mats that protect the snow from melting over the summer.

Happy Monday Val d’Isère

More sunshine !

With barely any wind.

Enjoy it while it lasts

We have talked about the Protection dogs

A family kept a Patou as a pet….

TheN Moved to Marseilles..

after a week walking in a lovely local

PUBLIC park…

Ms Patou

Escaped

Decided to move into the park ……….

Won’t come home

Can’t be caught….

Police, vets, pound have so far failed…….

She hasn’t hurt anyone……….

But the fear is there……….

THEY ARE BIG DOGS

BRED TO PROTECT

BRED TO ATTACK TO PROTECT

THEY ARE NOT PETS

Hopefully it will be caught soon…

I am sure you have seen my dogs…….

I mentioned how they

NEARLY lost us a table at Benoits….

Radio Val’s

Meet & Greet Team…….

Big  ish

Hairy

Energetic

SOOOO Enthusastic

One season a young couple were

Staying in my neighbours flat.

WHENEVER I appeared with the dogs

Jean and Jo

 flattened themselves to the wall……

CLEARLY

Both terrified of dogs……

As much distance as possible

Between them and the hounds…..

Even though the dogs were on leads..

After a FEW WEEKS

They gingerly approached

The DOODLES were overcome with JOY

Hugs and kisses

The couple were confused

then explained………..

The owner

My neighbour

My good friend…..

Had WARNED them……..

Told them NEVER get close to my dogs………

Bizarre he said

They LOOK

REALLY FRIENDLY

approach

They bite……….

They hadn’t met Charles…..

Or his wicked
British sense of humour……..

They ACTUALLY

LOVE DOGS !!

However

Back to Patous…

They also look

Cuddly

ALWAYS give them a

very

wide berth…

Sad news from the Southern French Alps…

2 light aircraft

Crashed just after take off.

The thirty seven year old pilot and 18 year old passenger in one were killed.

The other pilot was injured but survived.

All three were British.

Beaufort d’Eté……

Ever wonder

What makes the

d’Eté so special ?

Made from the milk from cows

gobbling delicious

Summer grass

Hot Dry summers

Less grass

Cheese paler and flatter flavour

Hay can’t be brought from outside the region of AOC cheeses without very special permission

Even a temporary fix

Adding sileage or concentrates

To the feed

Changes the cheese

Longer spells of cool damp weather in spring and early summer…

Less hay

Larger hay barns to stock up during good years.

The Fruitiere is a building where the cheese is matured….

We have one at the Folie Douce…

Cheeses are matured for at least one hundred days…

And affected by temperature and humidity.

If hotter now outside

Need better insulation for buildings

And refrigeration

Better mountain paths,

to move the cows to lusher pastures.

Heifers … lady cows who have not yet had a calf….

Go to high pastures earlier in the year to crop the grass before the main herd arrives

So new grass as milk producing cows need it most.

What about milking ?

This is done in pastures in summer…….

Now need refrigeration units so milk doesn’t spoil on way down mountain in hot weather.

More climate change…

From green pastures

To ski  slopes…

A Finnish Company

Snow Secure

Has caught our attention

Extruded polystyrene mats used for snow insulation during the summer.

Apparently they retain

Eighty percent of the snow they cover….

WHAT ?

How does it work ?

Ski resorts

Harvest snow during the winter

Then stash it under these mats……

So the resorts can open earlier….

Using their tidy pile of last years snow…

Had a choice of 10 celebrations today

The obvious top choice

Is the UN International day for disaster risk reduction…

Then the

Train your brain day…

Caught my eye …

No brainer for me to choose this one

LOVE learning new things

A Good workout for my

Grey matter

Is

Translating from French into GOOD ENGLISH

Rather than Franglais

Can be quite a challenge …….

Especially the longer you are here………

One of my friends keeps talking about

“Recycling” her ski instructors…….

I can understand the sentiment

They must have SOME USE

Though I would call it

Recertifying…

I had one art class when they were talking

About

Bonk say….

Shouted down when I

Suggested that

It is Banksey…

NO-ONE says his name like that ……..

They almost had me convinced

Otherwise give me a

Subject or technique

Especially something

Hands on

And I will give it a go…..

I am a fan of

 life long learning.

So I am now off

To strain my brain

By studying something NEW….

Be back tomorrow.
